This is a reminder that VA has never required a school possess a certificate of eligibility from VA before certifying a student’s enrollment.

While VA did begin accepting applications for eligibility determinations on May 1, 2009 for those applying for benefits under the Post-9/11 GI Bill, this was done for two primary reasons. First, there was a high level of interest in the program from potential future students and those future students had a need to understand how the bill impacted them. Second, using the summer period to determine eligibility for those soon attending school allowed VA to better meet the demands of the fall enrollment rush.

Therefore, we encourage schools to submit enrollment information to VA as soon as possible. Remember, the school enrollment certification is the piece of information VA needs in order to authorize payment under any the Post-9/11 GI Bill, MGID-AD, MGIB-SR, REAP, and DEA.
